NWS Storm Update 10-8-16 @ 11pm

Here is the latest just received by Mike Dutter of the National Weather Service.  Supporting briefing materials available here.  Thanks!  Jim

“Significant and potentially life threatening flooding will continue through Sunday morning across the Tidewater of VA and NE NC. Already a few areas have seen 10 inches of rain with additional 2 to 5 inches possible overnight. In response to this rain, there will be considerable river flooding in the coming days, with a few spots possibly seeing major or even record flooding.
In addition, coastal flooding will become moderate in Hampton Roads through NE NC. It is possible that areas south of Virginia Beach will see Major flooding on Sunday. [Note, tide gauge for Sewell’s Point is available in previous update, here and in graph attached below]
Lastly, winds will remain a concern through Sunday morning with wind gusts approaching 50-55 mph near the water. Many reports of trees being downed by the wind already. Much weaker winds inland.”
