Here is the 3pm briefing update for Hurricane Matthew as provided by Jeff Orrock, Meteorologist in Charge with the National Weather Service in Wakefield.  Supporting materials available here.

Thanks!

Jim

At this time Flood Watches are in effect for southeast VA and northeast NC, Gale Warnings are in effect for the coastal waters, Bay and rivers and Wind Advisories are going to be issued for southeast VA and northeast NC this afternoon. We DO NOT plan on issuing Tropical Storm Warnings for the area and will continue to cover the storm using the headlines above. Note, Coastal Flood Advisories and/or Warnings will also be maintained for the event.

Overall, there had been very little change today other than a slight increase in forecast rainfall. Southeast VA and northeast NC should think flooding which would occur Saturday into Saturday night and early Sunday. The other storm threat will be strong gusty winds which could result in downed trees and power lines Saturday night and Sunday. Tidal flooding will also increase to Moderate level Sunday into Monday along the NC and lower VA coasts and across the lower Bay including the James and York Rivers.
