Here is the latest from Jeff Orrock, Meteorologist-in-Charge with the National Weather Service in Wakefield:
“Please see the attached overview briefing
for Hurricane Matthew. The most significant change is the increase in forecast
rainfall across southeast VA and northeast NC. Up to 3 to 6 inches of rain is forecast for this area
which would result in flooding. The timing of the heaviest rainfall is during
the Day Saturday into early evening.
Winds
are still forecast to increase Sunday in the same areas receiving the heaviest
rainfall. This could result in areas of downed trees and power outages Sunday. Minor tidal
flooding is expected to persist through the weekend and could increase some
Sunday into early Monday.
To get the exact timing of the wind and rain
in your location please go to our website http://weather.gov/akq and
click on a location to obtain your forecast. Use the Hourly Weather Graphs to
view exact timing and intensity of winds and precipitation.
For the latest on Matthew visit http://www.weather.gov/akq/Matthew.”
Latest tide chart also attached
and shows a high tide of 4.3’ (less than minor flood stage) planned for
tomorrow (Friday) at 1:54pm
The hourly graph is also provided
to show the weekend weather expectations.
Likely chance of rain (80+%) to at 8am Saturday through 7am Sunday. Accumulation throughout this time is approximately
2.5”. This graph also shows the increase
of note in wind gusts arriving Sunday morning and remaining until the evening
hours. This will be the prime time to expect any downed trees.
As encouraged in the last Team
update, if able and safe, please report any downed trees, downed lines, etc you
may come across using our STORM Mobile program.
The more use it gets, the more familiarity (and documentation) we’ll
have!
Thanks!
Jim
